A man has appeared in court in Manchester charged over alleged involvement with loyalist paramilitaries in Northern Ireland.

A man has appeared in court in Manchester charged over alleged involvement with loyalist paramilitaries in Northern Ireland.

Roy Barwise (46) of Cardigan Way, Anfield, Merseyside, is accused of the commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism under the Terrorism Act 2000.

He spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth at Manchester Magistrates Court.

Mr Barwise was arrested near his home on Tuesday by officers of the Greater Manchester Police Anti-Terror Unit and Merseyside Police, and was charged yesterday evening.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Manchester Crown Court on July 29th.
