A man was being treated in hospital yesterday for a gunshot wound to his leg after being attacked at his home in Coleraine, Co Derry. Three masked men armed with clubs and a gun broke into his Ballygallon Park home in the Ballysally estate before midnight on Monday. They dragged him from his bed before beating him and shooting him in the lower leg. One of the men pointed the gun at the man's pregnant girlfriend before escaping. Mr John Dallat, the SDLP assemblyman for the area, condemned the attack and said it had been carried out by sinister elements who often dealt in drugs but masqueraded as "protectors of the loyalist people".
