Police in the North are today questioning a man about the murder of a retired postmaster and a sexual assault on the victim's elderly sister.

The 76-year-old victim was found dead at his home near Coalisland, Co Tyrone, just before Christmas.

Detectives believe the pensioner was suffocated whilst still in bed after an intruder forced his way into the property on the Mountjoy Road at Killeen.

The dead man's sister (67), who also lived at the address, was then sexually attacked and beaten before being left for dead. She suffered serious head injuries and broken bones in the December 19th ordeal.

In an attempt to hunt down the killer, police launched a mass DNA screening programme throughout the area.

Detectives arrested a man (42) from the Coalisland area last night on suspicion of murder, attempted murder and a serious sexual assault of a woman.
