A man is still being questioned by gardaí after a suspected “tiger kidnapping” robbery attempt on a bank in Phibsboro, north Dublin this morning.

One female staff member and her partner are understood to have been targeted by the thieves.

The woman was forced to go to the Permanent TSB branch and withdraw a sum of money, understood to be in the region of €300,000.

A man in his twenties was later arrested in the Cabra West area and a sum of money recovered. It is not yet clear if all the money was recovered or how many people were involved in the robbery.

The man is being held at Mountjoy Garda Station under Section 50 Criminal Justice Act 2007.

A spokesman for the bank said there had been a “serious security incident” at its Phibsboro branch, but said the matter had been resolved and no one had been injured.

He said the lender was working with gardaí to ascertain what had happened.
