There were also charges of dangerous driving and driving without insurance. All the alleged offences took place between the last September and this month.

Mr Aeneas McCarthy, solicitor for the defence, applied for bail which was opposed by Insp Jim Browne, Roxboro, on the grounds of the seriousness of the charges and because the prison officers feared for their safety.

Judge Tom O'Donnell refused bail and remanded Mr Dundon in custody until Thursday.
