Man held over alleged child abductions

Gardaí in Co Dublin have arrested a man (32) in connection with a series of alleged attempted child abductions.

Gardaí in Co Dublin have arrested a man (32) in connection with a series of alleged attempted child abductions.

The Garda at Skerries, assisted by the Garda Crime Unit, Balbriggan, arrested the man at 7.40am in the Skerries area.

According to a Garda statement, the man is being detained at Balbriggan Garda station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

He had been detained for six hours before gardaí extended his detention for a further six hours.

The statement added: "Contrary to some negative media reporting in these incidents, the gardaí at Skerries commenced an investigation immediately following the reporting of the first such incident."
