Gardai yesterday arrested a man in connection with an incident in Cork in which shots were fired at the home of a widow and her teenage son.

The man, who is in early 30s, was arrested at his home on Cork's north side by gardai investigating the shooting at Mount Eden Road, Gurranabraher, early on Tuesday.

Two shots from a handgun were fired into a downstairs sitting-room, while five others were fired at the house. However, the widow and her son were upstairs and were uninjured.
