Gardaí have arrested a man following an arson attack on a Garda station in Ballymun, north Dublin.

Gardaí have arrested a man following an arson attack on a Garda station in Ballymun, north Dublin.

A spokesman said a man entered the public office of the station shortly after 1.00 a.m. and was seen pouring petrol on the floor. By the time officers got to the office, the man had lit the petrol and fled.

Gardaí evacuated the office and extinguished the fire. There were no injuries and only minor damage to the station.

A man (29) was arrested nearby after a search of the area. He is being questioned at Santry Garda Station.

The Garda spokesman said a motive was not known yet.
