A man who did not like the way another motorist drove assaulted and injured him in a road rage attack, a court was told yesterday.

Trevor Thompson, Willow Park, South Douglas Road, Cork, had pleaded guilty to assaulting Mr Michael Walsh at a previous hearing of the Cork Circuit Criminal Court. The case was adjourned to enable him to pay compensation to his victim and £1,000 was handed into court yesterday.

Garda John O'Riordan said Mr Walsh was driving to work at 7.30 a.m on August 27th last. Thompson took exception to his driving and overtook him. He then stopped sharply in front of Mr Walsh's car, causing him to crash into the rear of his own vehicle.

He was accompanied by a passenger and they both punched and severely assaulted Mr Walsh, who is still suffering from post traumatic stress.

Judge A.G. Murphy warned Thompson he would go to jail for a considerable time unless adequate compensation is paid. He adjourned the case to November.
