A man who came back to Ireland and admitted helping to move and hide a body is to be sentenced on Monday at the Central Criminal Court.

Joachim Pohl (29), a German national, pleaded guilty to assisting an offender in the removal and concealment of the body of Thomas Thompson, the removal and disposal of personal effects, and the cleaning up of his dwelling at Borris Road, Portlaoise, Co Laois, on April 20th-21st, 2007, and various dates thereafter.

Pohl, with an address at Linton Place, Kilkenny, who entered the plea on November 25th last, will be sentenced by Mr Justice Paul Carney on Monday.

Mr Thompson (59), originally from Yorkshire, England, was a self-employed plasterer who worked on building sites throughout Ireland, travelled home fortnightly and sent money back to his family.

Paul Burns SC, defending, told the court that Pohl was in great fear of the other man, and he accepted he did assist but was extremely remorseful.

He asked the court to take account of his client's guilty plea, the fact he showed genuine remorse, and that he returned to Ireland to face charges brought against him.
