Man gets two years for fraud

A man who used his name and address in a £100,000 fraud has been jailed for two years by the Crown Court

A man who used his name and address in a £100,000 fraud has been jailed for two years by the Crown Court. Mr Charles Adair, defending, said it was impossible to see how Clark Brolly (58), from Beers bridge Road, east Belfast, would not have been caught. Judge Patrick Markey said but for his circumstances and his guilty pleas to 20 specimen charges he would have doubled the sentence.

Crown lawyer Mr Paul Ramsey said the fraud operated between August 1991 and April the following year. Brolly fronted three bogus companies trading in fancy and novelty goods which secured orders from English firms but then closed up when the bills came in. The total loss to those involved was £100,000, but Brolly later told police he only made £10,000.
