A man has been found dead with head injuries in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.

In a statement, the local police said the body was found in a “drainage trench” near the main motorway that runs through the capital.

A spokesman for the Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed it had been contacted in relation to the discovery of a body in Nairobi, and that officials were providing consular assistance to the victim’s family.

It is understood police found an Irish driving licence in the dead man’s wallet, though it is not believed he was an Irish citizen.

It is believed he had recently arrived in the country and that he was working as a photographer.
