A man working for an ESB subcontractor has been electrocuted in an accident in Co Leitrim.
The 30-year-old man, a South African national, was injured while helping to erect an electricity pole in a field near Carrigallen at around 10.30am.
Builders were moving a pole across the site on a mechanical digger when it came into to contact with high voltage wires.
The man, who was working for a Cavan-based civil engineering firm contracted by the ESB, died almost an hour later.
The Health and Safety Authority, gardaí and the ESB have begun separate enquiries.
An ESB spokesman said: "Our sympathies are with the victim, his family and colleagues. We will co-operate fully with the enquiries and have also launched our own investigation."
