Man drowns at O'Connell Bridge

A man in his 40s drowned in the River Liffey last night

A man in his 40s drowned in the River Liffey last night. The fire services said he jumped from O'Connell Bridge at around 10 p.m. Fire fighters pulled the man from the water but efforts to revive him failed.

The body of a second man was retrieved from the Royal Canal near Cross Guns Bridge, Phibsboro, at around 8 p.m. He was pronounced death at the Mater Hospital.
