A 29-year-old man jumped to his death from a fire in his fifth-floor apartment in Limerick shortly after 2 a.m. yesterday. Just moments earlier, the man had called a taxi company next door to ask them to alert the emergency services. The top-storey apartment on Cecil Street was destroyed by the fire. Three units of the fire brigade stopped the blaze from spreading to other apartments and a neighbouring building. The man's name will not be released until relatives have been contacted. It is understood he was from Cork city and had been living in the apartment for about seven months. Henry Street gardai are investigating.
