A man has died following a shooting in north Dublin last night.
The man, who in his early 40s, was fatally injured in the attack which happened in the north Dublin suburb of Finglas.
It is understood the man was returning home from visiting someone in Kippure Park at 11.20pm when he was shot. He was taken to the James Connolly Memorial Hospital in Blanchardstown but died at around 3am.
Gardaí said the man was "a family man with a number of children".
The incident happened close to the scene of another shooting which occurred on Monday night. The man who was shot in Finglas on Monday is still being treated in the James Connolly Memorial Hospital where his condition was described as stable last night.
Gardaí are continuing to investigate Monday night's incident which took place in Berryfield Drive, some 2-300 yards from Kippure Park. The victim, who is in his twenties, was shot in the arm by a gunman shortly before 7.30pm. Gardaí yesterday said a detailed description of the gunman was not available.
However, witnesses said that he was wearing a balaclava.
A Garda spokesman last night said he could not say if the two shootings incidents in Finglas were related.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a shot was fired at a house on St John's drive in Clondalkin Co Dublin shortly after 8pm last night. It is understood the shot was fired through the downstairs frontroom window of the house. No-one was injured in the incident according to Gardaí.
