Man dies after house fire in Charleville

A 36-year-old man died after a fire at a house on the outskirts of Charleville, Co Cork, yesterday.

A 36-year-old man died after a fire at a house on the outskirts of Charleville, Co Cork, yesterday.

Emergency services were called to the house in Freemount at 7.19am.

It is understood the fire broke out at a small cottage in the townland of Cappanagoul about 3km from Freemount village.

The victim's body was recovered from a bedroom in the house.

He was taken to Cork University Hospital where he died from his injuries.

His name is being withheld pending notification of family members.

Gardaí were yesterday carrying out a technical examination of the house in an attempt to establish the exact cause of the fire.

However, foul play has been all but ruled out by investigating officers.
