A 37-year-old man pleaded not guilty to the murder of an elderly man at his home in Oranmore, Co Galway, in 1996 when he was arraigned at the Central Criminal Court yesterday.

Mr Patrick O'Connor, a native of Poulboy, Kilgainey, Clonmel, Co Tipperary, denied the murder of Tommy Casey (68) between January 15th and 23rd, 1996, at Oranbeg, Oranmore, Co Galway. He denied further charges of trespass, assault and the false imprisonment of Mr Casey at Oranbeg on January 15 1996.

The trial is due to start tomorrow.
