A man who claimed to be Jesus Christ and then a "John the Baptist" figure was yesterday declared unfit to stand trial. His wife had told Dublin Circuit Criminal Court that her 53-year-old husband had plans to save "the chosen" in a Dublin suburban house during the second coming.

Yesterday, a jury took just over 10 minutes to find the man, who cannot be named, unfit to stand trial on charges of assaulting his wife with intent to rape last year. Judge Joseph Mathews remanded the accused to the Central Mental Hospital where he is being treated for schizophrenia.
