A man who assaulted two nine-year-old boys by producing an airgun when he thought they were trespassing in his back garden has been convicted of assault.

The boys told Tallaght court that they were “really scared” that the man might shoot them and harm their families.

The man (51), with an address in south Dublin, had pleaded not guilty to the assaults on February 24th, 2010. The man’s counsel told the court that his client keeps rabbits and uses the airgun to shoot magpies who attack them.

Judge James McDonnell ordered that pre-sentence, victim impact and victim offender mediation reports be prepared.

He adjourned the case until September.
