London - British police said yesterday they had charged a 49-year-old man with the murder of a county councillor, Mr Andrew Pennington, and the attempted murder of a Liberal Democrat MP, Mr Nigel Jones.
Mr Pennington died on Friday after an attacker burst into Mr Jones's constituency advice surgery in the town of Cheltenham, in western England, and repeatedly stabbed the party activist with a two-foot sword.
