A man has appeared in court in connection with an incident where a woman was allegedly held prisoner in her home in Dungarvan, Co Waterford, for several hours over the weekend.

Barry Farrell (23), Pacelli Road, Naas, Co Kildare, was charged with falsely imprisoning the woman in Dungarvan on June 23th-24th, 2007, and with threatening to kill or cause her serious injury on the same occasion.

Mr Farrell was also charged with threatening to kill or cause serious injury to Garda Brendan Murray in Dungarvan on the same date when he appeared yesterday at a special sitting of Dungarvan District Court.

Gardaí objected to bail and Judge Terence Finn deferred a decision on bail to allow gardaí to obtain more information.

Judge Finn remanded Mr Farrell in custody to appear again at the scheduled sitting of Dungarvan District Court tomorrow, when he will hear more submissions regarding bail.
