A man has been charged with causing an explosion at a police station in Northern Ireland.

He is also accused of hijacking and false imprisonment, possession of a firearm and membership of a banned organisation.

It follows the dissident republican car bomb attack at Strand Road barracks in Derry on August 3rd last year.

The suspect (22) will appear at Derry Magistrates' Court tomorrow morning, police said.

During the incident, a taxi was hijacked and packed with explosives. The driver was ordered at gunpoint to leave the car at Strand Road police station.
