A man  has been remanded in custody after appearing in a Dublin court charged in connection with the deaths of two French pedestrians in a crash earlier this week.

John Cash (25) from Sundale, Tallaght was charged with dangerous driving causing death and one of refusing to give a urine sample.

Martine Talon and Martine Liotard, both 53, died after they were struck by a car on the Kylemore Road in Ballyfermot on Wednesday night. They were walking on the footpath when a car  crashed into them.

Mr Cash was arrested at the scene and taken to Ballyfermot Garda station.

Kilmainham District Court heard today Mr Cash made no reply when charged. He did not speak in court.

He was remanded in custody with consent to bail on a number of conditions.
