Police have arrested a man (24) over the shooting dead of the eldest sister of tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams in Los Angeles.
Mr Aaron Michael Hammer was being held without bail as a suspect in the death of Ms Yetunde Price (31), in Compton, an area known for gang violence about 20 miles south of Los Angeles, Los Angeles police said.
Mr Hammer will face a first-degree murder charge at a hearing that is expected tomorrow.
Ms Price was shot yesterday morning outside a house that witnesses described as abandoned. There had been a confrontation between neighborhood residents and Ms Price, who was riding in a white sports utility vehicle with another man, Mr Rolland Wormley (28), police said.
Mr Wormley, who was not injured, was later arrested on a parole violation, the sheriff's office said. It was unclear who had been driving the vehicle.
Ms Price died of gunshot wounds to her upper body a short time after arriving at a local hospital. The mother of three owned a Los Angeles-area beauty salon and worked as a personal assistant to her two sisters.
Investigators were trying to determine why Ms Price and Mr Wormley were in the neighborhood. Ms Price lived in Corona, some 20 miles to the east.
