Man arrested over Galway post office raid

Gardaí have arrested a man following a armed raid of a post office in Tuam, Co Galway, today.

A man armed with a handgun entered the post office in Barnadearg at about 9 a.m. It was not known if any money was taken.

A man was later arrested by gardaí over the incident and is being questioned in Tuam garda station.

Another post office in Co Kildare was raided this afternoon by two armed men.

The men, carrying handguns, entered the post office in Clane at 1.45 p.m. They tied up the staff before escaping with an undisclosed sum of money in a post office van. The van was found abandoned a short time later.
