Man and woman die in crashes in Sligo and Cork

A 26-YEAR-OLD man and a woman in her 70s have died following road crashes in counties Sligo and Cork.

A 26-YEAR-OLD man and a woman in her 70s have died following road crashes in counties Sligo and Cork.

The man died when the motorcycle he was riding hit a ditch at Doonmarray near Ballygawley, Co Sligo, at 8.20pm on Thursday. He was removed to Sligo General Hospital, and was pronounced dead a short time later. He was named yesterday as Eamon Gaffney, from Knockbeg, Collooney, Co Sligo.

Family friends said he was on his way to meet his girlfriend when the crash happened. Nobody else was involved in the incident. Witnesses are asked to contact Sligo Garda station on 071-915 7000.

In Co Cork, a woman died when the car she was driving was involved in a two-car collision at Dromgarriff near Glengarriff shortly after 7.30pm on Thursday. The other driver, a man in his 50s, was uninjured. Witnesses are asked to contact Glengarriff Garda station on 027-63002.
