A Kilkenny man has gone on trial accused of murdering his wife in May of last year

A Kilkenny man has gone on trial accused of murdering his wife in May of last year. During his arraignment at the Central Criminal Court yesterday Patrick Hennessy (37), of Killaloe, Callan, Co Kilkenny, pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of his wife, Marie, on May 12th, 1999.

Prosecution counsel Mr George Birmingham SC, said that a manslaughter plea was not acceptable to the DPP.

The trial, which will resume today, is expected to last four to five days before Mr Justice Finnegan and a jury.
