A man is due in court in Newry today charged with the attempted murder of a police officer and three counts of burglary following a series of ram raids on shops.
The man (39) was arrested on Monday after a tool hire premises, electrical goods shop and a newsagents in the city were targeted in ram raids between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. on the same day.
The car alleged to have been involved in the raids was driven at a police officer pinning him to a wall and then collided with a police vehicle. Six officers were injured as they tried to arrest the driver of the car.
Police said the officer who was pinned against the wall fired a number of shots in defence.
