A 64-year-old man has died after suffering extensive burns when a garden shed caught fire in Co Down.

A 64-year-old man has died after suffering extensive burns when a garden shed caught fire in Co Down.

The man was discovered in the shed and rescued by firefighters when they were called to the fire in the back garden of a house in Reilly Park, Banbridge, just before 3am yesterday morning.

He was taken to hospital in a critical condition and died less than 24 hours later.

The man had been visiting his elderly mother's home and is thought to have gone to the shed in the middle of the night for a smoke.
