Police in Belfast are continuing to question a 20-year-old man in connection with the murder of a man found badly beaten on Saturday.

Former IRA prisoner Francis McGreevy (51) was found by his 15-year-old son in the living room of his ground-floor flat at Ross Street in the Falls Road area of the city.  He died today from his injuries and police launched a murder inquiry.

Police discovered a pickaxe handle and blood splattered throughout the flat after Mr McGreevy was bludgeoned about the head.

The man being questioned about the death remains in custody this evening, a PSNI spokeswoman said.

McGreevy was jailed for life for murder in the 1970s and served around 20 years before being released.
