A 20-year-old student has appeared in court charged with the manslaughter of Cork schoolboy Robert Holohan last week.

Mr Wayne O'Donoghue, from Ballyedmond, Midleton, appeared at a special sitting of Midleton District Court this evening.

Detective Sergeant Brian Goulding gave evidence of charging Mr O'Donoghue, an engineering student at Cork Institute of Technology, with the manslaughter of the 11-year-old schoolboy.

The court heard that when charged, Mr O'Donoghue said he had "nothing to say". There was no application for bail.

Judge Michael Pattwell remanded Mr O'Donoghue in custody at Cork Prison to reappear in court on Thursday.

He was arrested shortly after 11 p.m. last night under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
