Making music for Mairead

She wore "winter white" and the bridesmaid wore claret

She wore "winter white" and the bridesmaid wore claret. Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh, of Altan, was married to accordion player Dermot Byrne in Dunlewey, Co Donegal, yesterday. The harp, the fiddle, the bodhran and the human voice filled the country church when over 100 musicians and singers joined together in song. Those who took part included friends such as Mary Black, Tommy Peoples, Matt Molloy and Kitty Sheain Cunningham from Teelin, Co Donegal.

Mairead's dress was designed by Ciaran Sweeney, who describes the material as "silk velvet devore" and the shape as "a double-halter-neck dress with a train and a hooded Kinsale coat." The dress worn by bridesmaid Anna Ni Mhaonaigh was designed by Elaine Curtis. The flower girls wore white silk velvet dresses with claret knit cardigans. And the reception was held in the Highlands Hotel in Glenties afterwards. Comhghairde achas agus saol fada don bheirt acu.
