LONDON - The former British prime minister, Mr John Major, was among more than 1,200 people at Westminster Abbey yesterday for the memorial service of the cricket legend Denis Compton, who died in April, aged 78. Two months after he left 10 Downing Street, saying he was on his way to watch cricket at the Oval, Mr Major strode into the Abbey minutes before the service began.
