Dublin City Council deputy manager Philip Maguire is to replace the local authority’s outgoing manager John Tierney on a temporary basis, the local authority has said.
The deputy, who is currently responsible for planning, economic development and international relations at the local authority, will fill the role following the departure of Mr Tierney to Irish Water.
Mr Tierney was appointed managing director of the State’s new water utility in January after six years managing Dublin City Council.
A spokeswoman for the council said the replacement of Mr Tierney was a matter for the Department of the Environment, which will direct the Public Appointments Service to seek a replacement.
‘Temporary capacity’
She said a recommendation had been sent to the department that Mr Maguire “assumes the responsibilities of the city manager in a temporary capacity”.
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown county manager Owen Keegan is among those tipped as a possible permanent new manager, along with Mr Maguire and Cork City Council manager Tim Lucey.
