Racing: Jason Maguire's appeal against a seven-day ban that would rule him out of the ride on leading Stan James Champion Hurdle hope Peddlers Cross at Cheltenham next month will be heard on Thursday.

The Irish jockey will be represented at the British Horseracing Authority hearing by Graeme McPherson QC, with Rory Mac Neice acting as his solicitor.

Maguire had been looking forward to partnering the unbeaten six-year-old for trainer Donald McCain on March 15th but found himself in hot water with the stewards at Doncaster following his ride on the stable's Cool Mission, runner-up to Beshabar in the three-mile beginners' chase on Wednesday.

The suspension would be effective from March 9th-15th inclusive.

Five days of the ban was for marking the horse, with two days for using his whip with excessive frequency.

"We have lodged an appeal against the penalty and findings of the decision of the local stewards," Mac Neice said. "That will be our start point. We are still preparing our appeal."
