Golf:Royal Lytham and St Annes Golf Club in Lancashire, England was today named as venue for the 2015 Walker Cup.
“We are delighted that Royal Lytham & St Annes has agreed to host the Walker Cup in 2015,” said David Hill, R&A’s director of championships. “As one of Britain and Ireland’s premier links courses, it will undoubtedly provide a stern test befitting a contest that has come to represent the pinnacle of amateur achievement.
The biennial team event between Britain and Ireland against America will take place on September 12th-13th, 2015.
Lytham has hosted four British Amateur Championships (1935, 1955, 1986 and 2007) plus two Ryder Cups (1961 and 1977).
The links venue has also staged the British Open 10 times and will do so again in 2012.
The 2011 Walker Cup will be played at Royal Aberdeen in Scotland. Following that, the 2013 match will be contested at the National Golf Links of America, Long Island, New York.
