Cyril Lyons has stepped down as Clare senior hurling manager, and his backroom team of Louis Mulqueen and Ger O'Loughlin have also stepped down.

The Ruan clubman has reportedly cited a lack of silverware and the lengthy hours involved among his reasons for resigning.

Lyons succeeded former manager Ger Loughnane in June 2000 and led Clare to last year's All-Ireland final where they lost to Kilkenny.

This year, Clare struggled to capitalise on their early good fortune. Having beaten Tipperary in their opening game they crashed to Cork in the Munster semi-final before losing out to Galway in the All-Ireland qualifying series.
