Loyalists are expected to start a legal challenge to the reimprisonment of Shankill UDA leader Johnny Adair this week, according to his close associate Mr John White.
Adair was returned to Maghaberry Prison on Friday after Northern Secretary Mr Paul Murphy revoked his licence on the grounds he is still involved in terrorism. Adair was sentenced to 16 years in 1995 for directing terrorism.
Mr White said he would be asking the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission to support a legal challenge by Adair to his reimprisonment "because it is wrong that someone should have allegations against them which they can't defend".
Adair had been released in September 1999 under the early release scheme of the Belfast Agreement but the-then Northern Secretary, Mr Peter Mandelson, returned him to jail in August the following year.
This was at a time when he was under threat from the UVF.
