The dissident loyalist paramilitary grouping, the Red Hand Defenders, has admitted responsibility for the pipebomb attack on the home of a Catholic family in Dungannon, Co Tyrone, on Wednesday night.

In a statement to a Belfast newsroom using a recognised codeword, the group said it intended to extend violence to the Republic. The group threatened: "The war is still on. We will start attacking the South soon with guns and bombs."
