A Co Louth farmer, described in court as a leading member of the "Real IRA", was refused bail by the Special Criminal Court in Dublin yesterday. Mr Liam Campbell (38), of Upper Faughart, Dundalk, Co Louth, is charged with membership of Oglaigh na hEireann, otherwise the Irish Republican Army, otherwise the IRA on October 3rd last.

Refusing bail Mr Justice O'Donovan, presiding, said the court was satisfied there was a very strong case against Mr Campbell on the offence of membership.
