Gardaí in Drogheda are investigating the hijacking of a lorry carrying household goods and clothes early yesterday.

They do not believe there is any connection between it and the hijacking of a lorry near Dunshaughlin yesterday morning.

The red Volvo was carrying goods for discount retailer TK Maxx. It was stopped at 4am at Braganstown, Castlebellingham, by at least two men armed with a pistol and a shotgun.

A Garda spokeswoman said the driver was put into the boot of a car and taken to a shed at Stabannon in Co Louth. He managed to escape unhurt and alerted gardaí. The lorry has not been recovered.
