An English lorry driver has been remanded in custody after appearing in court in Galway, charged with dangerous driving causing death after a crash yesterday in which a couple were killed.

The husband and wife were killed instantly yesterday when their car and an articulated truck collided at Moyvilla, between Oranmore and Craughwell on the N6, main Galway to Dublin road at about 6.15 a.m.

Mr Dean Stoakes (34), from Burton-upon-Trent in Staffordshire,  was arrested after the crash and held at Mill Street Garda Station.

An application for bail was refused when he appeared at Galway District Court today and he was remanded in custody to appear at Harristown District Court on February 18th.

The dead couple were today named by gardaí as Shay English, (47) and Teresa English (45) from Knocknacarra Park, Galway.
