London - British MPs voted overwhelmingly last night to strip hereditary peers of their centuries-old right to sit and vote in the House of Lords.
At the close of an impassioned two-day debate, an opposition attempt to block the second reading of the House of Lords Bill was defeated by 383 votes to 137, a government majority of 246.
