Thousands of DART commuters in Dublin experienced serious disruption yesterday because of "loose overhead cables" at Connolly Station. The service to the city centre was disrupted from 8.15 a.m. until just after 4 p.m.

No trains were permitted into Connolly station, a spokesman for Irish Rail said. DART trains from Greystones and Bray in the south went as far as Pearse Street. On the northside, trains from Howth could only proceed as far as Killester. No further interruptions to the service are expected.
