Local authority planners in Dublin, Cork, Dun Laoghaire, Galway and Longford have begun balloting on industrial action. Their union, Impact, objects to proposals to abolish the most senior planning posts in city and county councils. Impact says their abolition would mean massive planning delays and an increased likelihood of irregularities because planning decisions would be taken with inadequate professional involvement.
