Amlin Challenge Cup:Saracens kept their Amlin Challenge Cup ambitions alive with a comprehensive 28-9 victory over Jonny Wilkinson's Toulon at Vicarage Road tonight.
Derick Hougaard won the battle of the outhalves with 20 points from six penalties and a conversion following Justin Melck’s second-half try.
The victory was Saracens’ first of the year after they suffered successive English Premiership defeats to their title rivals London Irish and Leicester.
But it may ultimately not be enough to secure their passage to the knockout stages of the Challenge Cup because Toulon remain in the box seat, one point ahead of Saracens at the top of Pool Three.
If Brendan Venter’s men are to qualify they must beat Rovigo next week and hope Toulon lose at home to Top 14 rivals Castres.
Elsewhere, Wasps ran in eight tries in their 50-16 rout of Rugby Roma while Bourgoin overcame Bucuresti 33-15.
