PROGRESS in eliminating litter is dismal, the Fianna Fail spokesman on the environment, Mr Noel Dempsey, said. He urged that more resources be given to local authorities to enable them to employ litter wardens. The Government was concentrating on public relations rather than enforcement.
The Minister for the Environment, Mr Howlin, said he was far from satisfied with the litter problem but he hoped that by educating young people the situation would improve.
