A Progressive Democrats councillor, Mr Kieran O'Hanlon, was elected Mayor of Limerick last night. He received nine votes Mr Patrick Kennedy (FG) got five votes, and Mr Joe Harrington (Ind) received three votes. The outgoing mayor, Mr Jim Kemmy, called for an end to "the assassination culture which has built up in this country".
