Limerick's growing reputation as the EuroMillions hot spot of Ireland, was further enhanced yesterday with confirmation that the city had another big winner in last weekend's €183 million draw.
Co Limerick plumber Tom Flynn from Foynes won €9.6 million in last Friday night's EuroMillions lottery. Yesterday the National Lottery revealed that a second winning ticket worth over €97,000 was also sold in the Treaty City.
Both wins are still nowhere near the record €115 million jackpot won by Limerick woman Dolores McNamara last year. Mystery still surrounds the latest EuroMillions winner who purchased the lucky ticket at Johnsey's Friendly Store in the Kileely area of Limerick city. The ticket, which matched five numbers, was bought last Monday night and is now worth €97,247.
According to Johnsey's shop owner John Moloney, nobody knows who the lucky person is, but all of his staff are hoping it is somebody local.
"We haven't heard a word about it, just confirmation from the National Lottery that the ticket was sold here. I have no idea if it was a syndicate or a single person but we all hope it was somebody local," said Mr Moloney.
This is the second big win for Johnsey's Friendly Store in Kileely where a €250,000 lotto plus ticket was sold a few years ago.
